All of our beautiful Kurtas are designed by Jeanine Recckio.
Inspired by Palm Beach and handcrafted in India from the
villages around Lucknow, central India a famous area which provided
the Moghul royalty with their court clothing and also their typical traditional
day to day wear in the hot summer season. “Chikan” work is a form of
“whitework” involving open holes overlaid with hand embroidery – to allow
air vents for cooling – yet keeping a beautiful look. They are usually done
with a white on white hand-embroidery. Their stitching techniques include
appliqué pulled and drawn-thread work and embroidery. Oftentimes small
bits of sewn-on mica; pearls; semi-precious stones etc. were added –
depending on the status of the wearer. The handwork involved in their
making was oriented to the royalty etc. With that group no longer around
this art form is in danger of disappearing due to machines – particularly
those embroideries coming from China.
Only $135 each!
This art form is spectacular value for the amount and care of the handwork
involved! Our Kurtas are available in sizes s- xl in all colors & lengths
they are true treasures and I enjoy designing them for you! Enjoy !
